The [REAL] Meaning of John 14:6 KJV NIV I am the way, the truth, and the life
The meaning of John 14:6 KJV & NIV
John 14:6 means Jesus is our only access to God and salvation. There is no other way to be saved. Our good works cannot save us neither can our positions in the church or among men can save us. This scripture is a non-negotiable requirement to be saved.
Jesus is not one of the ways, but the ONLY way to the cross where His blood was shed so that we can be saved. For without the shedding of His blood, there would be no remission of sin. (Hebrews 9:22)
Jesus is the truth because there is no old or new generational truth, truth is truth. He is rooted in the eternal God which acts upon us.
A life without Christ is a life full of crisis. You cannot follow His leading and miss out in life and the life to come, for He has not called the seed of Jacob to seek Him in vain (Isaiah 45:19).
Anytime you are ready to come to Him, He is always available to receive you.

Who wrote John 14:6?
John 14:6 was composed by John. Other religious scholars argued that it was written by an anonymous author.
What is the context of John 14?
The context of John 14 informs us about how Christ spoke comforting and words of assurance to His disciples. He does not want us to be pained or troubled but to believe in Him as the mediator between us and God. For every believer's joy is to be with Him in heaven.
Hence, He went to prepare a mansion for us which is our everlasting dwelling place with Him. Jesus made Himself clear, your atheist friends does not have a place in heaven, you must believe.
Jesus is every sinner’s way to heaven. Our prayers go through Him and He gives us rest. In John Chapter 1 verse 1 states
“In the beginning was the word and the word was God and the word was with God” and verse 14 the scripture says,
“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
You cannot claim to believe in Jesus if you don’t believe in the word of God. The word of God is true and faithful, it is the truth that shines into our lives and empowers us to be changed into His image.
When you don’t quit believing, you will abide in Him and Him in you, you will do greater works on earth than He ever did.
He gives to us whatever we ask in His name. He is love and Love is the fulfillment of the Law (Romans 13:10). Our proof of love for Christ is in our obedience to Him and His words.
We must hold them fast in our hearts so that we can be loved by God and rest in Him.
He is our advocate and comforter, who is ever with us. God’s gift, the Holy Spirit is lavished upon His chosen and not to the world.
He abides with every believer forever. Whosoever does not know God or believe in Him cannot see Him or encounter the Holy Spirit. Jesus, who is also the Holy Spirit, dwells with those who love Him and obey His words.
Jesus informed His disciples all He had said might not make sense to them now until He has been crucified and resurrected.
He promised to send them the Holy Spirit who will bring all He had said to their remembrance.
He encouraged His disciples with words of peace, knowing He is the Prince of Peace. No storm can take Him unaware.
He also encouraged them ahead to keep their faith alive. Jesus brought to the remembrance of His disciples that Satan does not have any power over Him, but that the world may know that He loves His Father and obeys His commandments.
What is the message of John 14:6?
John 14:6 means Jesus Christ is the ONLY way to salvation. There is no other!
It is only through Him we can be saved. No one can come to God directly until they have known Jesus. Acts 4:12 says,
“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved”.
Jesus Christ is our mediator between God and man. He is the only way that takes us to the Father. The scriptures say in Proverbs 14:12:
“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”
We need the perfect way into His presence, we cannot lead ourselves. If Heaven is our ultimate destination, Jesus is the ONLY path that leads there. Jesus Christ is the truth in the flesh and life to all who believe in Him.
“Jesus answered, “I am the way” meaning
“I am the way” means the ONLY way to make heaven is to accept Jesus as your Lord and saviour. All He wants from us is to believe in Him. It is only through Christ we go to the Father.
There is no other way we can submit to God except what He had said.
When Thomas asked Jesus, we do not know where you are going. How do we know the way?
Jesus’s response to Thomas is still the same today. He is the ONLY way! John 10:9 says, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”
It is only through this way we can also find peace and rest for our souls.
“I am the truth” meaning
“I am the truth” means Jesus is the word of God personified. He is God’s revealer, that is, He reveals the truth and He is the source of all truth.
As God’s disciples, we are to speak the truth, walk in the truth and believe in the truth. Christ embodied the truth.
John 17:17 says, “sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth” Jesus is the truth in visible form.
“I am the life” meaning
“I am the life” means Jesus Christ is the eternal life. He gives eternal life to only those who believe in Him for salvation. God’s covenant of grace covers everyone who have faith in Christ.
Jesus is the giver of life and the only one who can take us to the place He prepared for us.
He died so that we might not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
We must believe in Him if we want eternal life. When our time is over here, we will spend our eternity either in heaven or in hell, depending on the choice we made.
I urge you to make the right choice, which is heaven. He is the only source of eternal life. God’s covenant of grace covers everyone who have faith in Christ.
“No one comes to the Father except through me” meaning
“No one comes to the Father except through me” means there is no other way, no other truth neither is there another life to God except through Christ.
There is no other way to Jesus. It is only through Him we can serve and please God. Examples are as seen in the story of the Ethiopian Eunuch and Cornelius in the book of Acts 8:27- 40 and Acts 10:1-48.
What is the difference in translations of John 14:6 in NIV, ESV and KJV?
We have different translations of John 14:6 in the bible but the message in New International Version (NIV), English Standard Version (ESV) and, King James Version (KJV) remain the same.
The only difference is that “except through me” was stated in both New Internal Standard (NIV) and English Standard Version (ESV) while “but by me” was used in King James Version (KJV). Whether ‘Except through me or by me”, Jesus is the only way to the Father. This is settled and the final.
John 14:6 New International Version (NIV) says, Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 14:6 English Standard Version (ESV) says, Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 14:6 King James Version (KJV) says, Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me”
A John 14:6 Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your son Jesus. I come to you today as a sinner, forgive me my sins and wash me with Your blood.
I confess you as my Lord and personal saviour. I acknowledge and have the confidence of faith that You are the only way, truth, and life.
Therefore, let my light so shine before men so that all glory will be given to You in Christ's name I pray. AMEN
Conclusion
If you must know God, then you must know Christ. To know one is to know the other. To see one is to see the other. They are both the same being. Jesus is the way, the perfect truth, and the unending life.
Life outside these three attributes is a life full of frustration and emptiness.
He has given us the gift of the Holy Ghost at salvation which prepares us for God’s presence, brings peace to our hearts, and also gives us an understanding of the things of God. We must therefore build our spiritual life.
Heaven is prepared only for God’s people. Are you a child of God? Did you accept the gospel of salvation when it was preached to you? Have you accepted Jesus as your Lord and savior?
The scripture says in Hebrews 9:27 “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment”
We need to be prepared for the life after here. Salvation is the only way to escape damnation and this route is only through Christ Jesus.
Confess with your mouth and accept Him in your heart as your Lord and personal saviour today.
