It is very important to first explore the historical context in which it was written before we think of how it can be applied to our lives. 

This verse was written in God’s message to Jeremiah that he was instructed to share with the Jews who were under Babylonian bondage. The Jews were taken from Jerusalem and were instructed by God to immerse themselves in their existing culture.

They were to get married, have children and build houses as they will be spending seventy (70) years in exile. He cautioned them however, that even though they should adopt the culture, they should be careful not to practice the sinful behaviours of the Babylonians.

How to apply Jeremiah 29:11 to our lives

Even though this message was spoken to the Jewish nation, it is still applicable to our lives today. In applying Jeremiah 29:11 to our lives, it is important to note that we also serve the same unchangeable God who constantly demonstrates His love and is making provisions for His children. “…He is the same yesterday, and today and forever”.
