Businesses thrive when they have a team made up of individuals who can share ideas, solve problems, and work in harmony. While teamwork is a key part of any successful business, it’s not just the workforce that can benefit from a unified team.

Think of everyday society; problems are best solved when we put our heads together. Whether it’s coming together in the face of a worldwide pandemic or a natural disaster. Marriage is another example of working as a team. Teamwork builds morale, and without it, we’d be lost.

Bible Verses share wisdom on how we can unite to achieve a common goal and create a team that can split difficult tasks into manageable ones. We can turn to the Lord Jesus Christ for guidance when we are seeking the chance to work better together.

One of the most important messages from the Bible is that every man needs to look after another and to love thy neighbor. In the busyness of life, this message is often lost.

When we’re frustrated with colleagues, unmotivated, or unwilling to work with others to find solutions, we fall prey to producing more tiresome work.

So what does the Bible say about teamwork? Turn to these scriptures when you need encouragement, motivation, or if you are feeling overwhelmed and alone in the workplace.

1. “Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him - a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, ESV

Similar to another iconic quote; ‘Sorrow shared is a sorrow halved. Happiness shared is happiness doubled’. In life, we will always be met with obstacles and God’s words state that we can’t overcome these obstacles alone; we need one another to make it through life.

In turmoil, God says that we will suffer greater damage if we aim at looking over ourselves and not minding for others. Simply put, look after another, and you will be looked after.

2. “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” Proverbs 27:17 NIV

We are told to work together in unison, and that means that you boost a friend or coworker up when they need it the most. But a good team member isn’t someone who simply speaks words of encouragement with no wisdom or room for growth.

Rather, good team members challenge you to do better. In the end, they’re not just helping you grow, but they’re helping the team as a whole.

3. “Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.” 1 Corinthians 1:10 NIV

This Bible verse signifies that we are all part of the body of Christ, and although we are not one body, we share God’s love. When we come together as a team, we unify God’s love, sharing the same world, faith, and devotion.

4. “For the body is not one member, but many.” 1 Corinthians 12:14, ESV

Teamwork is the essence of humanity. In the simplest of terms, we are all part of a team that relies on one another.

Each part of our body has been given to us to serve not ourselves, but the rest of the church. And when we work together, we are at our strongest and able to perform the will of God.

5. "Then the Lord God said, 'It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.'” Genesis 2:18, NASB

What’s interesting about this particular Bible verse is that it is the first time that God has used the statement of “not good”. This leads to a problem that needs a solution, as is the case with many problems we encounter today.

God states that the solution to man’s problem is a companion. He will make a companion that matches the creation of man; a partner with the purpose of being man’s companion and helper. It’s God’s intention that we see one another as true equals and companions as two are better than one.


Proverbs 3:5-6 is a beautiful scripture that reminds us to always trust in God

This teamwork scripture by Peter starts by stating that we should appreciate that everything we have is a gift from God. Everything we have from God is intended to be used to His will, which is to love one another, take care of other people, and share our unique gifts.

Together, as a team, we need to act as good stewards of God. A steward is someone who looks after another’s property; not using our gifts to support another person would lead to us failing at being a good steward.

We all make mistakes though. Some days we feel as though we cannot support ourselves, let alone another individual. But by surrounding ourselves with people who act as good stewards of God, we can be uplifted.

7. "Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor." Romans 12:10, ESV

In Christ, we are all viewed as brothers and sisters. Therefore, let us devote ourselves to loving one another as we would a sibling. And as many of us understand, there are times where siblings do not get along and the same applies to those we work as a team with.

We’re only human, and during the rocky times, it’s important to remember this. As long as we have those who care for us as siblings, the tough times will pass.

This leads us to the next part of the verse: ‘Outdo one another in showing honor’. This implies that each of the acts we do should serve one another, and by doing so, our sibling feels deeply honored all the time.

8. "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you." Ephesians 4:32, NIV

9. "We ought therefore to show hospitality to such people so that we may work together for the truth." 3 John 1:8, NIV

Traveling teachers who served the Lord Jesus Christ relied on the help and support of others to spread biblical teachings. Today the message doesn’t just apply to traveling teachers, rather it can apply to any individuals who aim at thriving in a team.

Even someone who appears to know more than you can still benefit from your encouragement, and it proves that no matter how small the deed, it can have wonderful results.

10. “May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 15:5-6 ESV

While many of the Bible verses mentioned above inspire us to work together, this verse signifies that God is the greatest source of endurance and consolation. In times when we lack motivation or feel as though teamwork is challenging, God can be our ultimate teacher. He can lift us up and help us keep going.
