10 Best Christian Movies About War to Watch this Memorial Day with Your Family to Remind Them to Pray for Our Soldiers
We have four daughters so when we pick a family movie for movie night it is normally a romantic comedy or a drama.
But my husband enjoys action movies or movies about war. When I can find Christian film with action that is perfect for our family.
Here are some Christian war movies your family will enjoy.
We are Stronger
We have a family member who struggles with PTSD after returning from Afghanistan. We need more faith-based films that tell the truth about PTSD.
In the great movie, We Are Stronger we see a powerful message of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder experienced by many of our military personnel and their families.
In the movie Vic Raphael, has experienced deployment and returned home multiple times, but this time things are different. He is different.
His wife Michelle, who loves him, struggles with her patience, and then an old high school sweetheart, Mark enters her life.
Things are not going well until the couple meets two Christians, Carson, and Mia. Carson and Mia remind Vic of their past church attendance.
When things start to get better, Vic’s drinking takes a dangerous turn. This is when Michelle and Mark have to make some choices. Can Mark find his way home?
In Our Hands: The Battle for Jerusalem
As a history buff, I like to learn about wars. One of the most amazing wars is the Six-Day War in Israel.
I was so excited when I found this documentary film by CBN. In Our Hands: The Battle for Jerusalem is a CBN documentary film that remembers the 50th anniversary of the Six-Day War.
Israel, once in exile, stood alone for six days surrounded by enemies. Those six days changed history. In 1967 the world watched expecting to see the new nation of Israel wiped off the map.
This is the story of the 55th Paratrooper Brigade and we see the wary through the eyes of the soldiers fighting for Jerusalem. Their unique perspective is seen through interviews and footage from the war.
Hearing the personal stories of these soldiers will bring the reality of the miracle to life.
God Bless the Broken Road
This is a movie we watched as a family. This is the story of a young mother suddenly left alone when her husband dies in battle.
She has a beautiful daughter to raise and when tragedy strikes leaving her a single mother, she doesn’t know how she will survive.
In her pain, she pushes everyone away and tries to live life alone. But the turning point comes when a new young man comes to town.
At the end of the day, we see that family life and church community are essential to survive the pain.
We are reminded that God can take broken people and rebuild their lives.
Indivisible
This is another great movie about an American soldier with PTSD. This faith-based movie is based on the true story of Army Chaplain Darren Turner.
While Darren is helping other men find strength in Jesus Christ and embrace the Christian faith, he has his own struggles. Darren Turner is a loving husband and father.
He willingly leaves to serve his God and country in Iraq. But a near-death experience and the witnessing of deaths around him leave him with PTSD.
One thing I love about this film is that we see a beautiful young couple full of love and hope, and then we see the same couple after the war has impacted them.
The film shows the struggle of Darren returning home. This is a powerful testament to marriage and recovery with the power of faith.
We see how family life is impacted by war and the collateral damage war has on our families. The United States owes its soldiers a realistic look at PTSD.
I Heard the Bells
I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day has always been one of my favorite Christmas Carols. Once you hear the true story behind the song you will love it as well.
In this movie, we see Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. He is known as America's Poet. His life is happy until the Civil War breaks his family apart and threatens to destroy the country, he lives in.
After the death of his wife in a freak accident, and the injury of his son in battle he wonders if the country will ever recover. Henry never dreamed his son would have a military life, let alone be injured.
But then Christmas day he hears bells ringing from the church and he finds himself hoping for a future.
This is the story of the song; I heard the Bells on Christmas Day. This is a great movie to watch to bring you into the Christmas spirit.
Enjoy the story of this Christmas Carol.
Black Bear
This was a movie my husband enjoyed because of the fighting. However, I will say this is not a movie for younger children.
While there are these of Christianity the violence makes the movie not family-friendly. This is a movie that shows the reality of war.
The main characters in this movie are Blackbear and Cowboy. We see Blackbear fighting in the war, and Cowboy as a medic. Both show the harsh reality of what war is.
This movie shows that walking in faith during the war is not an easy path to follow.
Field of Lost Shoes
When I started learning about the true stories of the American Civil War I was shocked at just how bloody and tragic the war was.
More Americans died in that war than in all the rest of the wars combined. We forget the great price that was paid for a nation to abolish slavery. This is the true story of the American Civil War and the epic Battle of New Market in May 1864.
The war zone that happened at the Shenandoah Valley is a story we should all know about.
This is the story of a group of young men who had been shielded from violence because they attended the Virginia Military Institute.
Now they have to face the horrors of the war. The actors in this movie do a great job of showing the reality of the worst war in American history.
You don't want to miss this one.
The Hiding Place 2023
My all-time favorite person in Church history is Corrie Ten Boom. I heard her story as a little girl, and I have told her story many times. The Hiding Place tells the story of World War II through the eyes of Corrie.
As evil descended upon Europe and the Nazis took control, one family in the Netherlands decided to resist.
Corrie Ten Boom, her sister, father, and brother help hundreds of Jewish refugees by hiding them in their homes. But when a neighbor turns them into government agents, they find the true test.
Will their faith survive a concentration camp? There is a moral dilemma, do you risk the lives of your own family to save strangers?
This is a movie that is filmed with a stage performance in Nashville, Tennessee.
You will feel like you are in the audience watching this story unfold on the stage. This is a story that audiences of all ages need to see.
Navajo Code Talkers of World War II
I first heard the story of Navajo Code Talkers when I was in college. The story is inspiring. In this documentary, you will learn about the Navajo Code Talkers of WWII.
This was a secret group of Native Americans who created a secret code. They were able to create this code because of their Navajo language, and this was a code our enemies never cracked.
Because of this, the American soldiers had an advantage. This group was the reason that Japan was taken in 1945.
The documentary tells the true story of six USMC World War II veterans. These vets share their personal stories and memories.
This is not an in-your-face Christian film, but it is a film with the religious themes of faith and hope.
25 Hill
Here is one more option a documentary about the Navajo Code Talkers of WWII.
Like the last one, we see these Native Americans become heroes and share their stories of servicing in both the Navajo Nation and the United States.
These Navajo were marines and their secret code based on their Navajo language saved their fellow soldiers of the American military.
It was a code that could not be cracked. The new ways of seeing the American military is important to remember that all Americans worked together to help win World War II
